Walking With My Shadow

On a late January night, I walk the labyrinth by moonlight. The full moon, a large luminous orb on an elliptical path, is at its closest approach to Earth. Bright light streams down at an angle, causing me to cast a shadow. As I walk clockwise along the path, my shadow—hinged at the feet—slowly swings around me in the opposite direction. As I turn, heading counterclockwise, my shadow reverses its orbit around me. We walk together, my shadow and I, this radial pattern repeating until we arrive in the center of the labyrinth. Here, I pause, the moon at my back, my shadow stretching out before me.
